Mar 24, 2012 Maytag Dryer Belt keeps slipping off the drum. I am trying to replace the belt on an old Maytag Dryer, model DE382. I put the belt on the drum, grooved side up, about 1/2 in front of the back groove. After running the rest of the belt through the pulley apparatus, there is enough tension for the belt to rotate the drum.

Reach both of your hands underneath each side of the tumbler. Use your left hand to grasp the idler pulley, and pull it to the left while using your right hand to slip the belt off the motor pulley. Pulling the idler pulley to the left releases tension on the belt. You can now slip the belt off the back of the tumbler.
